- Geography
Geography
Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments. Geographers explore both the physical properties of Earth’s surface and the human societies spread across it. They also examine how human culture interacts with the natural environment and the way that locations and places can have an impact on people. Geography seeks to understand where things are found, why they are there, and how they develop and change over time.
- History
History
The study of history allows pupils to engage in a rich dialogue with the past. History allows an understanding of the shifting nature of the past and how it has been shaped by a diverse range of people and groups. Through considering these stories and the ways in which they have been interpreted over time students come to better understand the world around them. Studying History allows students to consider the situation historians find themselves in; with wide ranges of information and evidence and the need to work towards developing a narrative to help navigate the past. This requires students to evolve a set of skills including textual analysis, analytical writing and oracy.
- ICT
ICT
The values of Computer Science are diverse and increasingly essential in our digital world. At its most basic, everyone benefits from understanding how computers and software function. As the field deepens students become resilient problem solvers, skilled in designing algorithms and systems that model, process, and analyse complex information. As a discipline that intersects with mathematics, engineering, and many sciences, Computer Science drives innovation across countless sectors. By developing their skills in logical reasoning, abstraction, programming, and evaluation, students of Computer Science will find themselves highly sought after in industries such as technology, finance, healthcare, and scientific research.
- Languages
Languages
The MFL Department believes that languages are for life. We see the study of a Modern Foreign Language as an important part of our pupils’ education, as languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live and work. Learning languages contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and personal fulfilment. Pupils learn to appreciate different countries, cultures, communities and people. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and throughout the world through an engaging and challenging curriculum, which values the strengths of all and celebrates success. Competency in a foreign language unlocks the technological, enterprise and vocational abilities, which enhance the employability skills of our pupils. We aim to promote cultural awareness and develop our young people into global citizens of the 21st century.
- Maths

As it increases in complexity, mathematicians become resilient problem solvers, adept at modelling and analysing the abstract processes which permeate our technological world. As a discipline which underpins the physical sciences, the study of mathematics can lead in any and every direction. By honing their problem-solving skills of logical analysis, abstraction and evaluation, pupils working to progress in mathematics will find themselves much in demand across industries in finance, technology and scientific innovation.
- Performing Arts
drama
The study of Drama is so much more than just acting. It is an all-inclusive subject that brings a wealth of benefits to students development, from boosting confidence and enhancing communication skills to enabling creativity, empathy, and critical thinking. As such, drama is an essential subject within the school curriculum, helping to develop well-rounded women of today and to aid them preparing for the challenges of the future.

- Physical Education
Physical Education
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is a school subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future.
These skills and attributes help pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepare them for life and the world of work.
PSHE also includes statutory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which is delivered in a way that is consistent with the school’s Catholic values, promoting the dignity of the human person and the importance of loving, respectful relationships. In a Catholic context, RSE seeks to educate the whole person – body, mind and spirit – and is rooted in the teachings of the Church.
- Religious Education
Religious Education
Religious Education is the centre of our core curriculum, inspired by the living presence of Jesus Christ, who is at the heart of our Catholic community. It is both an academic discipline and a spiritual journey, shaping every aspect of school life and learning. It nurtures students to grow in wisdom, compassion, and understanding, guided by the Gospel values of faith, love, and service.
In line with the Roman Catholic Religious Education Directory (2023):
- Religious Education is taught with the same rigour and intellectual challenge as any other core subject.
- It engages students in the systematic study of the mystery of God, the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, and the beliefs, practices, and traditions of the Catholic Church.
- It is delivered within a broad and balanced curriculum, informing and enriching all other subjects.
- It is allocated at least 10% of curriculum time in each year of compulsory schooling, and 5% in sixth form, ensuring its centrality in the formation of our students.
- It invites every pupil, whatever their background, to encounter Christ and explore life’s deepest questions.

Science
Science lies at the heart of understanding our world and beyond. It empowers students to ask meaningful questions, explore solutions, and develop a deep appreciation for the natural world. From investigating microscopic cells to analysing the vastness of space, the discipline instils critical thinking, resilience, and curiosity.
The study of Science develops transferable skills in research, analysis, and problem-solving, which are in demand across diverse fields such as medicine, engineering, environmental science, and technology. Through Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, students at Coloma gain the foundational knowledge needed to make informed decisions and contribute meaningfully to society and the future of scientific innovation.
